Captain Dave has been a licensed USCG Master Mariner since 1986. He currently holds a 200 ton license for near coastal waters and also has a sailing endorsement.
His love for boating began on Grinnell Island on the 1,000 Islands, part of the St Lawrence River when he was a little boy.
Moving to Hilton Head Island with his family in 1978, he attended May River Academy and worked his weekends and summers at Palmetto Bay Marina. His boating enthusiasm landed him a job with a new development on Daufuskie called Melrose, where he became one of five captains. From here, working on the water would always be an integral part of his life. Dave served the local church as a youth pastor after high school, attending USC for his undergraduate studies locally. When he wasn't leading kids on mission experiences in Jamaica, or ski trips to Colorado, Dave was sailing charter boats across Calibogue Sound. Marrying Andrea Langford in 1993, they both set out to make the Lowcountry their place to call home and raise a family. Their son Matthew (19) is currently a sophomore at University of South Carolina, and their daughter Madison (13) is home-schooled. Living on the Broad River gives Dave easy access to South Beach as well as Bohicket Marina. He is excited to become one of the crew at Salty Dog and continue to learn and share life with all he comes in contact with. His favorite nautical verse is from Psalms 107, "They that go down to the sea in ships; and occupy their business in great waters; these men see the works of the Lord; and His wonders in the deep." |
